Stretch Goal Unlocked: Explorers and Navigators

Hi everyone,

We are so excited to have unlocked another stretch goal! It's even more exciting for us to have reached this milestone in the very final stages of the campaign, with just 50 HOURS to go. 

Extra Chapter

Unlocking this stretch goal means we can add around 12 pages of extra content to The Sci-Fi Character Kit, taking the planned page count to 140 pages. The additional chapter will be full of random tables to help you create daring Explorers & Navigators who are prepared to adventure to the edge of the universe, and beyond. All digital and physical editions of The Sci-Fi Character Kit will feature this extra chapter.

We are really excited to be able to create these extra tables as a thank you to everyone for their support of the campaign!

Planet Briefing Document #2

Our next stretch goal is just over the horizon, so the race is on to unlock the second planet briefing document before the campaign comes to a close. There's not long left to go, so it's certain to be a nail-biting finish!

Campaign Log: Week 3

Hi everyone,

I can't believe we are already on our third weekly update, the campaign is truly flying by! Here's what has been happening over the last week at Roll & Play Press.

Campaign Status

We just hit a really exciting milestone for this project – the campaign now has more than 1,000 backers, which is incredible! We're so grateful for everyone's support. When we embarked on this sci-fi Kickstarter adventure,  we knew that it would be our biggest challenge to date, so we are blown away that so many people have supported and shared our vision to bring our products to a whole new genre of RPGs.

Our next stretch goal is also growing ever closer. If we reach our target before the close of the campaign, we will be able to add an extra chapter of content to The Sci-Fi Character Kit. So, if you have been considering upgrading your pledge to include extra rewards, making the change now could help give us the boost we need to unlock this next goal! 

Project Progress

Meanwhile, progress is continuing on both books and all rewards! Here are a few things we've been working on over the last seven days:

• Briefing our illustrator on the technical designs for our Spaceship Specifications. The five vehicles range from a small single-pilot scout vehicle to a huge luxury cruise vessel, with schematics included for each to help you plan out your sessions and encounters.
• Developing more random tables for The Sci-Fi Character Kit. This week, I've been working on the Mechanics & Engineers chapter, which will be full of custom gear, mechanical companions and everything else you need to role-play a rocket scientist! 
• Receiving even more musical updates from our composer, Ian! Check out the clips below to get a sense of the awesome tabletop tracks that have been specially commissioned as part of this campaign. These tracks are available in our Digital Cargo Bundle, Ultimate Cargo Bundle and Captain's Locker pledge levels, and as an add-on in the pledge manager.

We hope you enjoyed this brief snapshot of what we've been up to. There are only EIGHT days left of the campaign, so stay tuned for more updates as we enter the final stages of our mission.

Campaign Log: Week 2

Hi everyone,

After launching two weeks ago today, we are now cruising towards the mid-point of our voyage. Things are all running smoothly, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to share another progress update.

Campaign Status

We are getting closer and closer to unlocking our next stretch goal. At the moment, we are 81% of the way to this milestone! If you are as excited as we are about the prospect of the Explorers & Navigators chapter, please do share the campaign with your friends, fellow players and any groups you might be a member of, and help us reach as many sci-fi RPG fans as possible!

Project Progress

This week, we’ve been continuing work on more awesome sci-fi content for you all. Here are some highlights:

• Completing the first draft of our Planet Briefing Document. This 8-page pamphlet guide to an original planet has been a blast to develop and write. It describes a planet named Lelantos, with features on its environment, history, population and more. It also contains awesome digital planet designs, including a full planet map.  
• Creating more random tables for The Game Master’s Sci-Fi Toolkit! As always, our soundtrack for writing is courtesy of Tabletop RPG Music. Composer Ian has already completed the first of three futuristic tabletop tracks that are available as backer rewards, so I’m listening to ‘Hazard Detected’ on a loop!
• Reviewing the initial sketches of the new character art we briefed last week. These will feature in The Sci-Fi Character Kit and be available as limited edition art bundles. They look fantastic so far, and we look forward to sharing more very soon. 

As we look ahead to the next stage of our mission, there’s an exciting new announcement lurking just on the edge of our navigation systems. I’ll check in again next week and hopefully be able to share a clearer picture!

Campaign Log: Week 1

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing well! It’s been one week since we launched this project, so I wanted to check in and give you an update on the progress of the campaign so far.

Campaign Status

Thanks to the community’s support, we are making great progress towards unlocking our next stretch goal. This stretch goal will allow us to add an extra chapter (12 pages) of content to The Sci-Fi Character Kit based on ‘Explorers & Navigators’. This would be perfect for players following the Scout career in Traveller or playing as Explorers in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire – as well as creating NPCs your crew might hire as a scout or guide on an alien planet.

Project Progress

In addition to monitoring the campaign, we are creating lots of awesome content. Some interesting tasks completed this week include:

• Briefing our fantastic illustrator on the next batch of character art for The Sci-Fi Character Kit. Christina always takes our bizarre descriptions and creates something even better than we could have imagined!
• Researching NASA’s real-life shuttle maintenance tasks as inspiration for a table in The Game Master’s Sci-Fi Toolkit. 
• Developing schematics for the range of vessels that will feature on our Spaceship Specification cards. It’s really important to us to make sure these can be incorporated into your game in a variety of ways. For example, your crew might sign up for shifts on the enormous GU-113-T cargo freighter in exchange for free transit, or they might try to rob one of its many hold compartments. 

Coming up this week, we’ll be further mapping out our original alien planet, Lelantos, and generating more random tables such as Corporate Security Protocols (as well as Hacker Networks that can crack them), I’ll be back soon with another update.

Stretch Goal Unlocked: Embroidered Patch

Hi everyone,

After a successful mission launch, we can confirm that all campaign systems are go. In fact, thanks to our amazing backer community, we’ve just hurtled past £25,000 and subsequently unlocked our first stretch goal! 

Embroidered Patch

With this goal unlocked, we will be producing this awesome embroidered patch add-on! The badges are 3 inches in diameter with an iron-on reverse. Whether you display them on your jacket, rucksack or spacesuit, we hope you enjoy this fun souvenir of your spacefaring adventures. 

All backers will have access to the patch as an add-on in the pledge manager (priced individually at £5.00). Our “Ultimate Cargo Bundle” and “Captain’s Locker” pledge levels include all physical stretch goals, so these backers will receive their badge automatically with their other rewards.

Digital Wallpapers

As well as this awesome patch, we will also be producing digital wallpapers for ALL backers! These will be based on the front covers of The Game Master's Sci-Fi Toolkit and The Sci-Fi Character Kit, and will fit the dimensions of all the most common digital devices.

What's Next?

Looking ahead, reaching our next stretch goal would unlock extra content for The Sci-Fi Character Kit.

Each chapter of this book focuses on a particular sci-fi career or archetype, and if we reach £45,000 in funding we will be able to add a chapter of random tables covering Explorers and Navigators – pioneers who map out unexplored regions of space, and document previously undiscovered flora and fauna. This will increase the overall page count of the book for everyone by around 12 pages (taking us to over 140 pages in total)!

So, please keep sharing the campaign with your sci-fi gaming groups, our early backer rewards (including a FREE plot hook card) are only available for another 5 hours and we don’t want anyone to miss out!
